Welcome to Life on the Trail...
Transportation

Transportation:

Getting from/to Airport transportation link: For more information about transportation to/from Suvarnabhumi Airport click on the link in Blue for more information

MRT (Underground Rail): A convenient and safe method of travel around Bangkok, especially to Bangkok's Chinatown where the BTS does not go.  You will catch the airport rail link to/from Suvarnabhumi Airport from Phaya Thai station. When you purchase a single ticket you will get a token to insert in the ticket booth. You can also purchase single and multi day passes. Automated machines feature instructions in several languages. Click on the link in Blue for more information

BTS (Above ground tram):  A clean and efficient method to travel around parts of Bangkok from Lumbini, Victory Monument, Sukhumvit, Bang Na, Phaya Thai, and other parts of Bangkok. The MRT does not go to Chinatown and Old Bangkok (Banglamphu) and does not travel across parts of the Chao Phraya River. You can purchase single ride or multipack at automated ticket booths or at the ticket windows. If you have a backpack security may check your backpack prior to getting on the train. Click on the link in Blue for more information

Tuk Tuk: Although a must for your first visit to Thailand and convenient for trips between short distance locations, Tuk Tuk's (open air, three wheeled vehicles) can be a fun way to travel through parts of the city. However, Tuk Tuk's are more expensive then a vehicle and motorcycle taxi and some Tuk Tuk drivers may try to overcharge you or take you shopping where they get a nice commission.  Do not believe any tuk tuk driver who tells you that your hotel or destination is closed, burned down or moved as this may be a scam. Click on the link in Blue for more information

Taxis: Official Bangkok taxi's are typically colored green & yellow or pink and are one of the more affordable methods of motorized transportation around Bangkok. Some will even hire themselves out for the day. Unless you know how to negotiate rates we recommend asking the taxi driver to use the meter. Click on the link in Blue for more information

Motorcycle Taxis: The most affordable method of transportation around Bangkok, motorcycle taxis are an adrenaline rush and lot's of fun but also the most dangerous way to get around Bangkok. You often do not have to over bargain with motorcycle taxi drivers as they offer fair rates but many do not carry helmets for passengers and some drive quite fast weaving in and out of traffic. Motorcycle Taxi drivers can be identified by their bright yellow and orange vests often parked on the side of road in popular transportation destinations. ***Remember to tuck in your knees and hold on when riding. Click on the link in Blue for more information

Motorcycles and Scooter Rental:  Renting a scooter and motorcycle can be a convenient way to travel in small towns in Thailand however please be careful and make sure you have experience and are familiar with driving in Bangkok, have experience with motorcycles/scooters, understand Thai motor vehicle laws, and take safety precautions like wearing your helmet. ***Bangkok police have been cracking down on tourists not wearing helmets riding scooters/motorcycles around Thailand. You can get a hefty "fine" or have your scooter/motorcycle confiscated. Please wear a helmet and have your passenger wear a helmet.
